I loved everyone’s contribution- my original plan had been to dismantle and reassemble the piece. But once I had it back in my hands I loved it so much I abandoned that idea and left it as it is. I only added black outline to the squares. Another year completed. This is my favorite project every year.

I love the foldable square structure of Cynthia’s collage. I’ve added b/w photos of children: my mother and other photos I’ve collected and tinted. It’s a cross between a picture gallery, a quilt, and a journey along the yellow brick road. – and a forest angel for guidance. The themes of journey and containment seem to be a thread our group’s collages.

Howard’s theme of containment, cellular walls, and confinement reminds me of my neighborhood in Portland. I’m surrounded by new high rise apartments. We’re contained in cookie cutter boxes and isolated from our neighbors. My contribution is an abstract view from my window, using paper I painted with acrylics.

Cynthia’s collage came to my mind as a quilt so I had to add my stitches – I didnt have anything suitable for big so I kept it confined and opened a window for a lil Alaskan birdie. I’m so interested in the shape it will take, I was so tempted to take it all apart, but alas I am but 2 in line, there’s more road ahead…will send out when the rain ebbs

1st pass. I used random maps from Good Will for the 1st layer with an acrylic glaze and lines drawn with wax pastels. I know it will be covered up so I kept it simple.

Created a base from junk mail and food labels, joined with orange thread and glue into a fairly neutral quilt. Wanted to be as open ended as possible and let the group take it wherever they felt.

thinking about transparency and walls/boundaries/layers and my mind wouldnt give up the screen, so here we are. left raw edges for attaching or finishing or ripping out. funny how the newspaper had its own voice in these pics- didnt pay attention til now. first time doer/sender- hope it finds Rebecca in one piece.
