done. en route to Marty tomorrow.
title: skiff skimming by way of pareidolia
wow. what a transformation/evolution. we ended up using at least one element from each person’s contribution & saw a decidedly nautical/navigational/sailing the calm/rough (depending on your perspective) seas theme emerge. Sandy: thank you for your textural/fun gears that turned into a compass pointing the way. Kaya: thank you for your black/white paper scraps that became icy glacier pieces in the sea. Ben: thank you for your white fabric addition that became ocean waves for Sonja’s tiny dagger teeth sailboats to sail. this is my 2nd year participating and Frank’s first and looking fwd to it next year.
sent along 5 postcards for each collaborator to jot their name(s)/thoughts but somewhere after Sandy got lost along the way so just wrote everyone’s name in order of contribution on the back.
thanks Marty. thanks all.
see ya next year.
art on!

Christine & Frank, January 30, 2026
Rec’d our collage back from Sonja. We’ll work on our changes this week before we send on to Marty. Thanks everyone for your additions.

SandyG, January 30, 2026
Ben’s starter was delivered to Kaya earlier this month.

Finished my additions to Kaya’s starter and sent on to them. The additions were stamps, marks, and distress edging using medium and light browns.

Ben Hoz, January 29, 2026
Just put Sonjas collage in the mail. Expected delivery time to the desert on the 3rd. I really liked the back of the failed gel experiment! So i repurposed it…

Sandy’s starter. Dropping in the mail tomorrow.

SandyG, December 29, 2025
Ben’s started piece has a lot of intricate details on the lower half. I like the space in the upper half. Decided to only add lacy strips to the gloves and a decal at the top left which could represent moon or sun or use your imagination!

Ben, December 29, 2025
Stayed true to the cloth material by adding more cloth.

whoa! what a transformation. where should i begin?! Kaya had included a note to Ben with her pc expressing interest/desire to keep her pc small this round. I wanted to honor that, so I reduced the rec’d pc by half (still now slightly bigger than a postcard). Kaya had also added a creepy cool black and white polaroid of a hallway to Sandy’s pc (I rec’d both in the same package), that Ben removed and tucked out of view on her pc. I really loved the image so I used the polaroid on Kaya’s pc instead of Sandy’s where it was originally presented. I’m obsessed with postcards of every kind, so when there was mention of one for Kaya’s starter pc, I went digging and peeling to kind it. Colorful, fun, old timey bowtie advert. Yes! I moved this image front & center feeling that its charm needed to be enjoyed. The blue sky/moon imagery that Sonja added reminded me of an evil eye, so I made it look more so that way. Protection against negative energies and harmful intentions–yes please! I also used 2 of her elephants. The only “new,” pc added by me is the torn cardboard pc at the bottom–serving as mountains or sand dunes for the elephants to trek through on their journey. I’ll and off to Frank to make any additions or alternations before we send off to Sandy. Super fun, complex pc to work and play with. Thanks Kaya, Ben, and Sonja!

Kaya & Sandy’s rec’d via Sonja. We’ll work on Kaya’s first, do our best to ship on time, and hold onto Sandy’s until Jan. Wondering if Ben is tryin’ out left handedness for fun–if so, solid attempt props! Letting things marinate a bit so our additions can be thoughtful. Great shapes to consider on Sandy’s starter. Brain storming ways to give Kaya’s a more cohesive aesthetic knowing there are still more changes after it leaves our hands. Cheers!

Wrinkle in time before and after

SandyG, October 21, 2025
Received from Christine, Sonja’s starter.
SandyG, October 16, 2025
Completed my contribution to Christine & Frank’s piece and have mailed it on to Kaya. The piece came to me with textures and collaged materials along with more subtle coloring in between the pieces of very blue painter’s tape. What a creative mixture and with recycling of materials made it all the better. My additions to textures inclued a charm and mini-gears along with home-dried corn silks and recycled wrinkled paper bag. A few marks were added in a small portion of the piece. Detailed in the postcard set to be kept with this piece as it moves between group members. Cheers and what fun!

Sonja’s starter en route to Sandy. Will ship Ben’s in Nov.

Christine & Frank, October 9, 2025
We decided that I’m going to work on Sonja’s and Frank is going to work on Ben’s (which he loves because it gives him until the end of Nov!). What I loved most about Sonja’s starter was the exposed texture of the recycled cardboard and strong green (Frank’s favorite color!), nature driven aesthetic and wanted to push that further. So I added additional green pieces (a gel print experiment “failure,” and scrap) along the bottom and top, hoping also to give the remaining 3 collaborators more room to play around with. The building she originally had on the upper right really took me out of the lush green scape and just felt out of place, so I got rid of that entirely along with the clouds which also kind of felt off, in an instinctual these don’t belong here kind of way. I’ll ship to Sandy sometime next week and update when in en route. Cheers!

Christine & Frank, October 6, 2025
Frank & I rec’d Sonja and Ben’s starters from Sonja today. Diggin’ the vegetation and textures of Sonja’s pc and what I’m imaging as the mohawked punk twins of Ben’s pc. We’ll get started with our additions within the next week or so, but will hold on to Ben’s until sometime in Nov as to not bombard Sandy. Thanks Sonja & Ben!

Rec’d an email from Sonja a few minutes ago. Said she’ll be shipping her starter today. Keeping and eye out…
Christine & Frank, September 29, 2025
I spoke with Sonja via email on the 25th and she said she’d be shipping ASAP. Nothing yet, but I’ll keep an eye out. Will let everyone know if not rec’d by end of day on the 1st. Cheers! C&F

I received from Kaya a small postcard stating she wanted to stay (start?) small. Sorry, things just automatically grow ( like the economy, although not always for the better).

The starter piece, Found It! Wrinkles in Time, has been sent to the next recipient.

Foundation is nearly done. Calling this one “Found It! Wrinkles in Time.” Using a 1920’s cities directory from my hometown in western PA.

Christine/Frank collage ships to Sandy today.
Christine Hippeli & Frank Ferraiolo, September 7, 2025
We had a (mostly) rainy day here on the east coast yesterday, so spent the bulk of the day holed up lounging, reading, watching movies (saw Evil Dead 2 for the first time and dug it!), and getting a little creative. Frank started adding his additions to our start piece (while listening to some Tom Waits) and set it aside to marinate a bit before deciding to add more or not. Will update as soon as en route to Sandy in PA.
I also cut up 2 other old acrylic paintings on canvas of mine in hopes of using some pieces in the work that comes our way–but leaving lots of room for surprises and unexpected (& hopefully a little wacky) pivots.
More soon!

Christine Hippeli & Frank Ferraiolo, September 2, 2025
Hi! Christine here. I ripped up an old acrylic painting of mine on canvas and hot glued some pieces together. Frank will add his creative voice/additions/alterations before we mail off to Sandy in PA. Would love if this continues to be an abstract, texture driven piece–but accept it’s out of my hands. Have fun!
