Round 5 – (Lillian’s starter collage) – keeping with the food related images, and the “join the cool generation” captured on the top of this collage, I decided to add some iconic food related images, such as: the Jolly Green Giant,the Sun-Maid Girl, the Campbell’s Soup chef, and a packet of Lifesavers. These images remind me of my own childhood, a Gen-X girl – what I consider to be the “cool generation”.

Round 4 (Natalie’s starter collage)= I tea stained some printer paper and copied some medical images from medical flashcards to add to this collage. I added a skull image (with burned edges) above the tea cup, a muscle body image flap over the two women to coincide with the flap of the older man on the right side of the collage (love the notion that of peek-a-boo flaps to see images beneath). I also added some words to the collage, “Chief Medical Consultant” under the image of the older man on the right, and the word “medical” in the hand of the middle skeletal image of the collage.

I forgot to post on the 8th. I have forwarded on the pictured collages. I added a linear element to the abstract collage. To the other I added a foreground with ship and made the window into a pocket.

Round Three Collage – Starter Collage by Beth McCoy: Keeping with the black and white theme, body imagery, and surreal feeling to the piece, I decided to add a woman to the bottom left, and arms from a different image reaching out to touch the crow. I left parts of the arms unglued so others could add images underneath them if desired. I then added legs on top of the eye over to the right side of the piece, leaving part of the legs unglued, again, in case others want to add imagery underneath them.

I have sent the second collage but have not received the third. I’m leaving the country until December. I will send November and December on as soon as I can after I return.

My initial collage was lost in the mail :( So I created a new starter collage. My new starter collage was inspired by the symbolism of this project, circling around from one artist to another, and the bits and pieces each artist adds a long the way. It made me think of Kaleidoscopes, which I loved as a child (and as an adult), and all the magical fragments that move throughout the “circle” one peers through. I am sad my original piece was lost in the mail; however, thankful for the newly inspired starter collage that wouldn’t have been created without the loss of the first one.
I received Emily’s starter collage, which was a beautiful base to begin adding to. She had a window at the top of her starter collage, so I decided to add some more foliage to the bottom right corner, and a door one can open to peek through and see the image below.

The [first] image is what I received. The second image includes my additions. In my own work I exclusively vintage images. I added a few here to represent my contribution. It was fun to be free to include modern images as well.

I decided to do a fold out collage that can be collaged on both sides. I left flaps on some of the collaged images I started so that other fodder can be added underneath, torn off, or other creative ideas by the group. I used images from a 1960 LIFE magazine for the starter on this piece. Looking forward to seeing this piece circle around!
