Based on Suzanne’s notes for this collage she initiated, I felt positive creative energy, yet the artwork also evoked some angst for me. The girl seems to be gazing sadly while messages about beauty echo around her. The green hands made me think of the Statue of Liberty, but draped in gaudy jewelry they spoke of the cheap commercialization of much in America that historically was admirable, but has been “chainsawed” in recent times. Yet, hope remains, in the child moving into the future, nature, the enormity of our universe….

I love stepping outside of my comfort zone and testing out any creativity in the interest of growth. My initial collage started with the idea of holding different things that may feel in opposition at the same time with the use of the hands and then the unknown of the future, but the beauty that comes with the unknown.
My interpretation of what I received from Sabina was also about where we’ve been versus where we’re going, and what’s been completed to what’s in the future. I tried to build off of that with the beauty of Home and being grounded while also looking to the openness of the future.

I love Holly’s theme “Seeing wonder with a child’s eyes”, and felt the heron wanted to see through the child’s eyes as well. Also added some background, a moth, butterfly and some celebratory stars.

I love owls (they’re beautiful and strong), and love the richness of this owl painting (see attached). I thought it would be fun to try to recreate an owl similar to this one, using colorful and textured materials to create an abstract yet very recognizable owl, against a dark forest background. I’ve sketched an owl on the paper, and look forward to seeing what interesting materials the other collaborators choose to bring to this project. Thanks friends. I can’t wait to see what comes back!
