Before and after receiving my collage from Lynn “Luna “ Orlando. It was fun to see how much it had changed and things that have been added and still had a very positive vibe to it! Gideon’s returned to sender from the mail and ballot was particularly interesting. And I had fun adding the “Super Best Friends” between “Come Join Us” and “For Navigation”, and turning Greggory’s tree branches into paint brushes.
Sadly, there were none of her ‘cute doggies’ left when the Welcome Wagon got to me. But I guess that means somebody got to have some ‘warm fuzzies’, which was kind of the whole point! I added the phrase “The Cheese Tax!” as a reference to the give-give reciprocal relationship I have with my dog! He’s everybody’s best friend and a good neighbor (except when he barks too much!).
I’m so glad I got to join this group, and so pleased with how this turned out!

Mailed my original to Berkeley yesterday. What a transformation from the last time it left my hands! I was tickled by Gideon’s Egyptian/mystical imagery, Bar’s threads and ribbons, Luna’s paste papers and caretaking (gluing down all the fragile bits), Jodi’s phrases and Morse code. Honestly very difficult to figure out how to respond/put a bow on it all, but then the NY Times Style magazine arrived with just the right shade of red.

Received Greggory Dallas’’ collage from Lynn E ‘Luna’ Orlando at a moment in time when the external world, from my vantage point, could seem particularly chaotic, disingenuous, frightening, unpredictable and overwhelming. So I choose to add to the inspirational vibe of this collage by adding some mostly prose-based reflections on personal and (seemingly, previously) universal values or moral ‘codes’ as a means of creating a fleeting moment of centering, grounding, inner reframing.
Coincidentally, I will now have to wait until after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a day centered on compassion and service to others, to ‘deliver it back to its creator.’ :-)

We’re playing a little bit of catch-up, so I worked on 2 collages today. Going to get them into the mail without fretting too much! This process has been great for freeing me from over-thinking: I can just send it along to the next person and trust that they’ll be able to find something to respond to.
Luna’s cosmic piece seemed ready for some more dark curves beneath Jodi’s bright school of fish. Bar’s cardboard collage got smoky swirls from India ink in water, transferred to scratch paper. I like how the latter is starting to feel like a tapestry, thanks to the vertical orientation.

I received Lynn’s collage art starter, “Cosmic Dreaming,” and was inspired by the tiny splotches of color surrounded by darkness, and swirls and financial info… and it had me channeling colorful fish immediately, so I went with that instinct since it also sort of got me thinking about the fun interplay of neon lights and dark alleys… aka cosmic bowling! Lol!
Then I got to thinking about a sea of data as local communities address NIMBY zoning issues around grid-draining AI data centers. I also saw a reference in the under layers to revolving credit which got me thinking of revolutions of the sun and the planets and the 3i/Atlas interstellar object – which will have reached its closest point to us today (12/19) actually, before it speeds away into the cosmos leaving a trail of mystery in it’s wake.
I also felt pulled towards a sort of minimalism called for here, as a counterpoint to the vastness of everything else that might be inferred by cosmic. What is the balance between the micro of individual introspection as a comparison to the macro, the infinity of the universal?

Added to Jodi’s “neighborhood” collage and getting ready to pop in the mail to send along to Gideon; was a good push to do something a little more representational. And the Welcome Wagon idea was a kick! Had fun prepping paste paper (-ish) with my helper in the sunshine.

Well, after chatting with Greggory about living in Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood (Pittsburgh), and considering the divisiveness of the world in general these days. I got to thinking about lightness, and kindness, and ‘What does it mean to be a neighbor?’ So with a very small window of time (since I was able to join the group late) to get this out the door before leaving for a short getaway last weekend, this is what i started and got in the mail on Friday 10/3/25.
The Welcome Wagon is my interactive ‘collage version’ of a little free library or little free art gallery: give/take/swap.

Mailing today! Had my workstation at the counter, with baby in her seat chomping away on breakfast. Lots of anxiety on my part about materials – my trusty UHU gluestick dried up. Elmer’s it is. I suspect much of this will separate in mailing and arrive as confetti. But I gather it’s all part of the process… Was very fun to put the NYTimes I no longer have time to read (see above, re Baby) to use.
