Myriam’s starter collage is on its way now to Karen C. It’s been worked on by Katie, and by me Karen H. Myriam sent 2 items – a textured colorful painting and a collage with images of lace. Katie added rich blue flowers that were painted/cut out and also printed on. I stitched part of the lace onto the right side and stitched some collage strips of color. i left all the dangling black threads. Thrilled to be part of the collective of this piece!

As of November 12, Jessie has withdrawn; Group 43 will continue as a group of four.
Karen H’s and Karen C’s collages were sent to Jessie, but never arrived. Karen C has created a replacement starter, and printed a replacement for Karen H’s starter. Those will be sent to Myriam HP. Jessie’s original collage can be set aside, or mined for content.

Thrilled to have received Katie L’s starter collage and will get it off to Karen C in Pittsburgh. Loved the wonderful leaf outlined in metallic silver, I added a stitched collage piece that had a small bit of fabric in it and left the dangling black threads. Katie also included an artist card for each of us. I added a protection sleeve to the art, a firm cardboard insert and used the same mailer. I know that some like to keep progress a mystery but I like seeing how these collages all evolve.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has gone on strike following Thursday’s government announcement of sweeping service cutbacks. Canada Post’s operations will shut down for the duration of the strike; mail and parcels will not be processed or delivered. Canada Post promises, “All mail and parcels in the postal network will be secured and delivered as quickly as possible once operations resume.“
Last year, there was a Canada Post strike between November 15 and December 17. It was a cause for concern, but I think the affected groups were able to wait it out and complete the project without lasting impact.

I sent my starter collage today to Karen C. The piece combines a stitched mini collage with a collage that tried to replicate the style of Joe Rudko of Seattle fame. I divided the areas that were left into 4 quadrants and hope that those collaborating will select a quadrant and work it to the papers edge. I didn’t glue all my edges down in case someone wants to tuck something underneath. I left all the dangling black threads for now. I look forward to seeing everyone’s contributions.
